2036 playoff chase heats up
Fresca Division:
Capital City: IN
With a 5-game lead over Utah at press time, they’ve got the inside track on the number 1 seed in the playoffs. Compared to the Raptors, the Mets have the tougher schedule left – they have Utica left while Utah doesn’t – but the Mets are still –2 in the Pythagorean W-L. One note of concern: Buddy’s boys are only 4-7 against Allo’s predators. My call: #1 seed.
Utah: IN
Pretty easy call. There’s 31 games left, and they’re 16 games ahead of the 5th place team. An outside shot at the top seed – especially since they do still have a series with Capital City left – but it says here they take the #2 seed.
Milwaukee: IN
Locked in a duel with Barstow for third place. They’ve got a slightly tougher road home (an extra game against Utah and they face Arizona instead of Orono), but I think this will also come down to the head-to-head series. My call: #3 seed.
Barstow: IN
The Brouhaha definitely have a chance to catch Milwaukee, and they actually have a couple of things working in their favor. There’s still a series to play between the two, and Barstow’s ahead in the season series, and their Pythagorean indicates should be two wins ahead of where they are. The big minus? They’ve got an extra game with Capital City left to play. My call: #4 seed.
Arizona, Montana, Orono, San Francisco: OUT
Arizona’s in the best shape to sneak in, but let’s be honest – 5 games out of playoff position with only 31 games to play means that they’d need a New York Mets-style collapse by Milwaukee, Barstow or both. Arizona is –2 in their Pythagorean, though, so it’s entirely possible they’re due a hot streak to normalize. The best thing that can be said about the rest of the division is that San Francisco is +6 on their Pythagorean. (Coincidentally, they might be better served to be playing DOWN to their Py...read more.

FAKE BASEBALL TO RESUME!

THE LONG DARK OFFSEASON OF THE SOUL ENDS!!
-FAKE BASEBALL TO RESUME
-MILLIONS REJOICE
-TEENAGE GIRLS ALL OVER EUROPE SEARCH FOR WAYWARD HOLLYWOOD OWNER
FOBL HQ – In a move sure to jump-start the world-wide economy, cause oil leaks to stop, and cause billions of angsty teenagers around the world to stop paying attention to pouting, brooding vampires, the FOBL Board of Governors announced that the "best damn fake baseball league in all of fake damn baseball will get back to the business of playing fake damn baseball" on Monday, July 5.
"It’s been one hell of an offseason, for sure," said League President, Richmond-Confederates-Commanding-General-And-Grand-Poobah-For-Life, and all around studmuffin CubsFan915. "We’ve lost 4 teams, 5 owners, two divisions, and my sunglasses. Has anyone seen them? Did Drake steal them? Anyway, there’s been a lot of turmoil in the last six months, and a lot of stops and starts, but we’re finally through the woods. Anyway, it’s time for our players to give 110 percent, and take things one day at a time and one game at a time. They’re just trying to help their ballclub win. Plus, now that ticket sales can start again, we fake baseball owners can get back to buying fuel for our fake yachts. I mean, do you know how much it costs to keep the gas tanks full, and the stewards paid, and the hot chicks to peel the grapes employed?" At that point, league officials ended the interview.
In an unrelated story, the estate of late author Douglas Adams announced plans to file an injunction to prevent CubsFan915 from stealing and poorly paraphrasing the title...read more.

CAP Proves Two Aces Better Than One
Posted By: RonCo
FOBL Stats HQ -- After 76 games, the Capital City Metropolitans are sitting pretty atop the Best Damn Division in Fake Baseball with a sizzling 54-22 record. Their offense is tepid, however, registering 10th in the VL in run generation. Only a single Cap City hitter is managing an average above .300 (venerable Jose Castillo is at .313), and the team OBP is a mediocre .322.
And yet they are clearly among the best teams in baseball.
The reason is obvious, of course. Pitching. Capital City lost mega-Ace Kyle Faller to their division rivals during the FA period, but took a quick elementary school math course and realized two > one, then went out and signed Dominic Mota and Edward Spinelli to go with returning arms Manny Gonzalez and Jim Perce to form a deep, deep rotation. The result has been astronomical.
Last year Buddy's squad gave up 647 runs, third best in the VL behind Philadelphia (618) and Utica (624). This year, the Philly staff projects to end the season at 567, a massive reduction off their already fine total. Utica is set to repeat their 2034 numbers at 622. But Capital City...holy freaking cows...is on target to allow only 490 runs, a 157-run, 24% reduction. Their team ERA is 2.62. Opponents are hitting .224 against them. They've dropped their BABIP by 29 points.
It would be interesting to go back through history ans see how this performance compares to other teams, but thats a heckofalotta work. So, we'll leave it at this...did anyone catch the number of that bus that's run over the DT?...read more.

Charging to 400
Posted By: RonCo
Five men have achieved 300 victories in FOBL competition, two of whom (Steven Dosier and Edward James) are still active. But now that Kyle Faller has hit 200 wins, all eyes seem to have turned to him. And for good reason. The star hurler has 222 wins at age 31, and with an expected decade left to pitch some are wondering if he could be the first to hit 400 wins.
But let's not forget the other big name starter in today's FOBL--that being Ayr's Clayton Pursel. Pursel was the original Faller, a young gun in the Milwaukee organization. He's now 35 years old and has registered 280 wins and is coming off a 21-victory effort in 2034. Barring injury, it's likely that Kyle Faller, assuming he's still shooting for the league lead in victories, will be trying to overtake Pursel rather than James or Dosier.
These two (Faller and Pursel) are truly remarkable pitchers.
How so?
Of the five pitchers who crested 300 victories, only Dosier made 200 wins at an age as young as 32. Here are the ages of the 300-victory club when they crested 200 wins:
Dosier 32
James 34
Miller 34
Contreras 33
Roseberry 34
Both Faller and Pursel made 200 wins as 30-year-old pitchers.
Want a few other names? Bryce Fiqeroa was 32 when he won his 200th. Douglas Moorhead was 33. There be a lot of Hall of Famers listed in this article, and we think it's obvious everyone is watching Faller with an eye toward that vote. But don't forget to pay attention to Clayton Pursel. There is every chance that he, rather than Faller, could wind up the al...read more.
